To say that May hasn’t been a good month for boating would be stating the obvious. With 739 mm of rain over the first 25 days, heavy seas and a moody bar we are all feeling the effects of ‘cabin fever’. Let’s hope that the foul weather is behind us and we can all get out again.

In the last week our crews were on call assisting boaties and the general community. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to those in our community who were hit the hardest.

This month we are asking for help through our MAYDAY appeal. Donations can be made through our website or at the base.

Our thanks to all who participated in our fundraising raffle.

Teams from across the Hastings teed off at Port Macquarie Golf Club on Sunday, February 23.

Marine Rescue spokesperson Chris Dickson said it was a great day of comradeship and fun.

More than $13,500 is set to be raised from the event which will go towards ensuring Marine Rescue is equipped with the right equipment.

The volunteer organisation needs to raise around $110,000 annually to ensure they can function 24 hours a day, seven days a week saving lives at sea.

Prize winners have been contacted and are all excited by the news.   Congratulations to the winners and our thanks to all who supported us with this fundraising event.

Second prize of a stand-up paddle board was won by another lady from Wauchope who couldn’t wait to collect her new toy. Third prize of dinner for 2 was won by a very pleased lady who works at Growers Market. Prizes 5 to 8 were won by 4 local ladies and 2 gentlemen from north of Port Macquarie and down to Wollongong.

Marine Rescue is incredibly grateful to the community of Port Macquarie-Hastings for their continuing support of our objective of ‘saving lives on the water’.
